Picnic in the Park and Butter Tart Contest

You are invited to enter our first Butter Tart Contest and enjoy a picnic in the park with friends.  Here are the details:

When: Sunday, July 30th beginning at 11:30

Where: Ken Reid Conservation Area in Lindsay.

Directions to get there:  Travel on Hwy 35 and just north of Lindsay (about 5 km) turn east onto Kenrei Park Road.  From the south this is a right turn just before you go down a big hill and see HB Cycle; from the north, go up the big hill just past HB Cycle and turn left.  Follow Kenrei Park Road for 3 km and when you go down a hill you will see the entrance to the park on your left; it is a gravel road so drive slowly.  Our picnic shelter is about 700 meters along the park road on the left side directly across from the administrative centre.  There is a parking meter but do not use it as we have taken care of parking fees.
Note:  If traveling from the Bobcaygeon area, do not use Kawartha Lakes Road #17
(Pigeon Lake Road) as it is full of large potholes.

Facilities:  We are using the picnic shelter adjacent to the parking lot.  Picnic tables are set up in the shelter for us.  There are
            outdoor washrooms available.

Lunch:  Bring your own picnic lunch.

Butter Tart Contest: We hope that you will enter our Butter Tart Contest but entry is not necessary to coming and enjoying this club event.  Those folks entering the contest must respond by July 24th indicating that they will be entering the contest.  Participants should bring 10 to 12 tarts in a closed container plus 2 tarts for judging also in a separate closed container (so two containers total).  The typical bakery style press-board boxes are ideal.  When you arrive, take your butter tarts to Jane Macnab.  She will assign you a secret number for the butter tart judging.  Following our picnic lunch, our three butter tart judges – Marie Stokx, Stephen Livingstone and Andy Easton – will taste each of the tart entries and score their favourites on a very rigorous and scientific system involving their discrete and impeccable taste buds.  Winners will be announced and auspicious awards presented.  We will all then have an opportunity of tasting for ourselves all of the fine butter tarts brought to our club picnic.

Response:  Please let Ian Macnab ( or 705-457-8505) know by July 24th whether or not you are coming and if you are entering our Butter Tart Contest.

We look forward to this fun filled VBCC event and hope that you are able to join us.  What could be better than a drive in your Little British Car, a picnic with good friends and a butter tart!
